Coach John begins his second year as the
Head Coach of the Centerville Elks. Originally from Pittsburgh, PA,
John helped establish and serve as the Head Coach of the Allegheny
Country Club Stingrays Swim Team for over 5 years. He also served
as the Age Group Coach for the Scott Township Sharks Swim Team for
two years. John is currently the Head Age Group Coach of the
WTRC Sharks as well as the Head Coach of the Dunsinane
Dolphins.
John began swimming at age 8 for the Western Waves YMCA
Swim Team. He attended Pittsburgh Central Catholic where he was a
member of their cross country, football, track, and swim teams.
John served a pivotal role of Central’s two WPIAL Swimming
Championship teams in 2004 and 2005, and was the 2006 WPIAL
Champion in the 100 yard Breaststroke his senior
year. Upon graduation from
Central in 2006, John attended LaSalle University in Philadelphia,
PA where he was a member of their Atlantic 10 Conference team;
placing 2nd in the 200 Breaststroke as a freshman.
As a sophomore, John transferred to Denison University in
Granville, OH where he was a 12-time DIII NCAA Qualifier and 8-time
All-American. He was an integral member of the 2009 and
2010 NCAC Championship Teams, as well as the 2010 DIII NCAA
National Runner-Up Team. John graduated from Denison in May 2010 with a BA in
Political Science and a minor in
Philosophy.

Rick Guerin

Coach Rick is begining his second year
as the head assistant coach for the Centerville Elks. Rick is from
Bedford, Virginia where he swam at the club and high school levels
before swimming for the College of William and Mary. He
served as the Head Age Group Coach for the Lynchburg YMCA Swim Team
from 1999-2001 and held the same position with the Bedford Area
YMCA Swim Team from 1998-1999. Additionally, Rick served
as the head coach of the Brookville High School Swim Team from
1999-2001, earning District Coach of the Year honors on the
men’s side in 2000 as the Bees were district and regional
champions and finished 4
th in
Virginia’s Group AA State Championship meet. Rick
also has five years of experience as a Head Coach with two summer
swim teams in Virginia. He currently coaches age group swimmers
with the WTRC Sharks.
The USAF brought him
to the Dayton area in 2002. Rick lives in Centerville with
his wife Amanda, daughter Brianna, and sons Eric and Will. He
holds a BS in Geography and works at Wright-Patterson AFB as a
Senior Systems Engineer.

Brianna Grover

Brianna
joins the Elks for her first year as an assistant coach. She is
from Raleigh, NC where she began swimming at the age of 5 for
her summer swim team. She later ended up coaching her
neighborhood summer team, where she was an assistant coach for 3
years, and head coach for 3 years. She also gave swim lessons
for all 6 years and served as an aquatics director at her pool.
At the age of 7, Brianna began swimming for the YMCA of the
Triangle Area swim club where she stayed until she graduated high
school. While at Wakefield High School, she served as captain
of her team her senior year.
Upon graduation from
Wakefield in 2006, Brianna attended North Carolina State University
in Raleigh, NC where she was a member of the ACC conference
team. She competed in several different events, specializing
in mid-distance free, back, and fly. At the end of her career
she ranked 3rd all-time in the 200 back,
7th all-time in the 100 back, and held school
records in the 400 & 800 freestyle relays. While at NCSU,
Brianna was very passionate about starting a partnership with the
Boys and Girls Club of Raleigh and the North Carolina State
University swim team to provide lessons for children of that
program. Brianna graduated from North Carolina State
University in May 2010 with a BA in Psychology and a BA in
criminology. She is now attending Wright State University
where she is working towards her Psy.D in Clinical Psychology and
her MBA.
